Jane Fonda is high on my list of heroines, and not just because her list of daily musts includes a vodka martini, along with 8 hours sleep and meditation. She’s great looking and super glamorous. But that’s not it either.
What I love is her candour and wisdom and zest for life. Who else makes a Hollywood comeback post-65? She’s starring in a new Netflix series with Lily Tomlin called Grace & Frankie, has a gutsy part in Paulo Sorrentino’s new film Youth (see below in Cannes with co-star Michael Caine) and is a brand ambassador for l’Oreal – all this at 77.
In an article in today’s Guardian Fonda says: “One of the things that’s really important: what makes you what you are is your mistakes. It’s not your successes.” Talk about a win win quote. And if you haven’t read it, My Life So Far is a brave and fascinating autobiography.
